AUGUSTA, Ga. – After a round of even-par at the fabled Augusta National Golf Club, first-year Elise Lee finished tied for 14th place at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA), the highest finish at the event in program history.
First played in 2019, the ANWA gives 72 of the best amateur golfers in the world a chance to compete at golf's highest stage. The first 36 holes of golf were held on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, with the top 30 players and ties advancing to the championship round at Augusta National.
Lee posted a 36-hole score of 141 (-3) across the first two days, making her one of nine players in the field to make the cut in her championship debut. She fired a round of even-par 72 in her final round, including a birdie on the iconic par-three 16th hole, to place tied for 14th. Lee's score of 213 (70-71-72) put her one stroke behind Auburn's Anna Davis, who won the ANWA at 16 years old in 2022.
Lee became the first Wildcat to advance to the championship round since Brooke Riley (30th place) accomplished the feat in 2021. Her finish is the latest in an already impressive debut season in Evanston, as the first-year boasts a scoring average of 72.76 in 21 rounds, and has collected top ten finishes at both the St Andrews Links Collegiate (T-3rd) and the PING/ASU Invitational (7th).
This year's ANWA marked the first time Northwestern had multiple Wildcats in the field. Joining Lee was senior Lauryn Nguyen, as well as future Wildcat Arianna Lau. Nguyen fired a score of 147 (71-76) in her second straight appearance at the event with Lau (74-73) matching her score in her tournament debut. Northwestern's three participants ranked second among Big Ten schools (USC, 4).
