Six ‘Cats Post Top-Eight Efforts At Lindenwood Open

Four Wildcats secure third-place finishes
ST. CHARLES, Mo. (November 18, 2023) – Led by a quartet of third-place finishers, six Wildcats posted top-eight efforts as Northwestern saw action at the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo. today.
Making his season debut at 174 pounds, David Ferrante bounced back from an 8-4 setback to open his day by rattling off four consecutive victories on the back end of the bracket, the last three of which came by fall. Ferrante completed a perfect run through the consolation round by pinning Charlie Friedenreich (Cumberlands) just 41 seconds into the first period to take third place.
Massey Odiotti (125 pounds) and Jacob Bostelman (157 pounds) followed a similar path to Ferrante, each falling in their opening bout of the morning before posting five straight victories to finish third in their respective weight classes. Odiotti scored three straight wins by technical fall ahead of a win by fall at 3:36 over Liberty's Zack Lovell, while Bostelman capped off his tear through the consolation round by knocking off Iowa's Isaiah Fenton in sudden victory, 4-1.
Luis Bazan closed his day with a record of 4-1 en route to taking third at 133 pounds. Like Bostelman, Bazan wrapped up his day with a win in sudden victory, scoring a takedown and four-point near fall to defeat Daryl Mills (Missouri Baptist), 10-3.
Sam Cartella and Aiden Vandenbush both landed in the top eight at 149 pounds. Cartella, bolstered by a 7-4 win in sudden victory over Iowa's Caleb Rathjen in second-round action, placed fifth overall, while Vandenbush dispatched Illinois' Jake Harrier, 9-4, in a consolation bout en route to landing sixth.
