Northwestern Drops Match to Idaho State

BOISE, Idaho – Caroline Niedospial moved into seventh place on the all-time digs list at Northwestern and Gabrielle Hazen set a career high with a .556 hitting percentage, but the Wildcats fell to Idaho State 3-0 in the opening match of the Boise State Tournament Friday afternoon.
Kayla Morin led the way with 10 kills, Taylor Tashima handed out 28 assists and Niedospial tallied 11 digs.
Moments that Mattered
Northwestern held a 21-17 lead late in the first set, but a Bailey Bars kill sparked an 8-2 run that clinched the game for the Bengals.
The Wildcats went on runs of 5-1, 4-0 and 4-1 in the second set but couldn't put one together late, dropping the final two points to Idaho State after tying the set at 23.
Notable
The biggest lead in the match for either team was four. Northwestern held a four-point advantage several times in the first set, while Idaho State reached that margin in the second.
The lead changed hands 16 times throughout the three-set match with Idaho State winning each game by no more than three points.
Stats to Know
The Wildcats hit .112 as a team but Hazen and Maddie Slater were bright spots at the net. Hazen hit her career best .556 on six kills in nine attempts, while Slater knocked down five kills at a .300 clip.
Niedospial now has 1,340 digs in her Northwestern career, seven shy of tying Stephanie Holthus (2010-13) for sixth all-time.
