Alice Kim Carries Two-Stroke Lead Into Sunday's Final Round

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Northwestern junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood) remains atop the Big Ten Conference leaderboard after shooting a 2-over 74 on Saturday.
Through 54 holes, Kim holds a two-stroke lead with a 2-under 214 (68-72-74). Her three-round total (214) ties the Big Ten's 54-hole record that was previously set by Ohio State's Cathy Kratzert (1983) and Purdue's Stacy Orschell (Purdue). Kim, who set the 36-hole Big Ten mark (140) on Friday, is two strokes in front of Michigan State's Sara Brown and three ahead of Ohio State's Carling Coffing and Indiana's Elaine Harris.
As a team, the Wildcats are in sixth place at 38-over (297-303-302=902). Purdue, Michigan State and Ohio State are first, second and third, respectively, at 17-, 19- and 22-over. The Buckeyes are the defending Big Ten champion.
Freshman Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy) carded a 4-over 76 and is in 21st place with an 11-over 227 (74-77-76). Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) shot a 1-over 73 and moved up 20 spots to 32nd place with a 15-over 231 (79-79-73).
Junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and freshman Justina Yu (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) are 51st and 55th, respectively, with a 22-over 238 (78-75-85) and a 24-over 240 (77-84-79). Sophomore Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair), who missed yesterday's two rounds with illness, came back and shot a 7-over 79.
The final round is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start. Saturday's action was played in rainy and cloudy conditions and temperatures in the low 60s.
