EVANSTON, Ill. -- Head coach April Likhite and her Northwestern squad make the trip south this weekend to the campus of Missouri State to compete at the 2009 Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday. The women's 6K race will commence following the conclusion of the men's 10K event, which gets underway at noon.

Northwestern has improved its overall team finish each of the last two years under Likhite's direction, placing 14th in 2008. NU has been paced consistently throughout the season by freshman Audrey Huth and sophomore Hallie Busta, who have placed one-two, respectively, in each of the 'Cats last four meets. Huth was NU's leading finisher in her first appearance at the Big Ten Championships and was the highest Wildcat placer since 2005.

Senior Paulina Garcia has also been a solid contributor to NU's efforts this season, placing third among Wildcats in the last four NU meets as well.

Big Ten foe Illinois enters the race as the top-ranked team in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region. In order to qualify for the NCAA Nationals meet, a team must finish in the top two at its respective regional meet while individuals earn an automatic bid by finishing in the top four in their region.
