2011 Northwestern Meet-by-Meet Results
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following a memorable performance at the Big Ten Championships and with two additional weeks of training under their belts, the Wildcats are ready to compete in Saturday's NCAA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Northern Illinois. Start time at the NIU North 40 Course in DeKalb is set for 1:15 p.m.
Northwestern has previously competed at the home course of Northern Illinois this season, winning the Huskie Invitational back on Sept. 10. Saturday's Regional Championships meet will follow a slightly different course than it did in September as the meet changes from a 5K to a 6K event.
The Midwest Region includes schools from 10 conferences, including the Atlantic 10, Big 12, BIG EAST, Big Ten, Conference USA, Great West, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, and Summit League.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 7 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional poll, are vying for a berth in the national NCAA Championships meet, which is granted automatically to the top two finishing teams as well as the top four individuals not representing a team which has qualified. Additional at-large team and individual selections may be chosen following the regional competition.
Second-team All-Big Ten honoree Audrey Huth is coming off a 10th-place showing at the conference championships, where she ran just off her own school-record time by finishing in 20:38. Huth's exceptional performance at last year's regional meet -- where she placed 17th -- earned her an at-large individual berth in the national meet, making her the first Wildcat to advance beyond regionals since 2002.
Four Wildcats set 6K personal bests at the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 30 and will look to drop their times even lower Saturday at Northern Illinois. Among them are sophomore Lexie Goldsmith
(21:11), Rachel Kaminski
(21:28), Ann Powers
(21:44) and Ashley Greenwell
