EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Cross Country will be well represented at the inaugural NIU Community Run hosted by Northern Illinois Friday afternoon. The open meet begins at 4:30 p.m. CT and will see the Wildcats compete on the 5K NIU North 40 Cross Country Course.

The event represents a culmination to the 2012 season for many of Northwestern's younger competitors, with the remainder of the varsity lineup in preparations for next week's NCAA Midwest Regional Championship in Springfield, Mo. No team points will be kept for the meet.

Northwestern makes a return Friday to where it opened what has been a stellar 2012 campaign, with the 'Cats having taken first place overall in the season-opening NIU Open on Sept. 7. NU placed six runners in the top 12 of the individual standings, including a pair of freshmen, Jessie Baloga and Megan O'Brien, as they made their collegiate debuts.
