EVANSTON, Ill. -- Poised and ready to take the next step in what has been a stellar season, Northwestern Cross Country joins the rest of the conference Sunday in East Lansing, Mich., for the 2012 Big Ten Cross Country Championships.

Start time for Sunday's 6K championship meet is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. at Michigan state's Forest Akers Golf Course. The event features four teams ranked in the most recent edition of the USTFCCCA national coaches poll, including No. 7 Michigan, No. 13 Penn State, No. 15 Michigan State and No. 25 Minnesota.

    • The Wildcats boast a No. 4 ranking in the USTFCCCA's Midwest Region, matching its highest regional positioning of the season. Northwestern enters the Big Ten Championships riding high in its most recent outing at the Wisconsin Adidas Invite, when the 'Cats finished fourth among 10 Big Ten teams entered in the nationally competitive meet.

    • In that race, senior Audrey Huth bested her own 6K school record by a remarkable 16 seconds, crossing in 20:19 to set herself up for a strong run in her final trip to the Big Ten Championships. Huth placed 20th at Big Tens as a sophomore in 2010 and last year topped that by taking 10th place, becoming Northwestern's first representative on the All-Big Ten team since 2002.

    • In fact, April Likhite's entire squad collectively rose to the occasion in last year's conference meet, helping the Wildcats take eighth overall -- 11 points shy of seventh -- and earn their best team finish since 2002. Then-sophomore Lexie Goldsmith took 38th overall while Sophie Ewald, Ann Powers and Michelle Moriset all gained championship-meet experience that they will apply this Sunday in East Lansing.

    • This year's host of the event, Michigan State, will be looking to defend its back-to-back Big Ten team championships.

    • Northwestern's lineup for the 2012 Big Ten Championships is as follows (in alphabetical order):

    Elena Barham, Fr.
    Sophie Ewald, Sr.
    Lexie Goldsmith, Jr.
    Audrey Huth, Sr.
    Libby Kocha, Jr.
    Michelle Moriset, Jr.
    Lauren Neuschel, Sr.
    Ann Powers, Jr.
    Abby Tracy, Sr.
