EVANSTON, Ill. -- As Northwestern hits the stretch run in its preparation for championship season, head coach April Likhite is set to see her squad compete in two important meets Friday. The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region, are entered in the field at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational in Madison as well as the Bradley Classic in Peoria.
Both meets represent the 'Cats' final competitions before toeing the line at the Big Ten Championships at Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 28.
In Madison, Northwestern will line up for a 6K test against many of the nation's most elite programs, including 20 of the 30 teams ranked in the most recent USTFCAA national poll. The event is scheduled to begin at Noon CT, followed by the women's 'B' 6K at 1:20 p.m., on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The course offers a prime opportunity for Wildcats to seek out personal bests; last year, Audrey Huth came within two seconds of matching her own 6K school record with a 20:37 at the Wisconsin Invite.
The meet also serves as a precursor to the upcoming Big Ten Championships, with 10 of the 12 conference institutions heading to Madison this weekend.
Also on Saturday, the Wildcats will be well-represented at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, another 6K event scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Friday at Bradley's Newman Golf Course. Northwestern is one of 27 programs competing on the women's side, a field that includes DePaul, Marquette, Illinois and Northern Iowa.
Complete results from both meets will be available Friday afternoon on NUsports.com.
