EVANSTON, Ill. -- Coming off its impressive team victory at the 32-team Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational last weekend, Northwestern returns to action Friday in the 5K adidas Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. NU is slated to compete against 23 other schools in the women’s Gold Division of the meet, which will get underway at 2 p.m. CT.

With the win, Northwestern vaulted into a 10th-place ranking in the Midwest region. A year ago, the ’Cats moved as high as 12th in the Midwest before finishing 15th in the Midwest Championships in November.

Several Wildcats set season highs during the 5K Sean Earl, including senior Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead), who finished sixth in 18:08, and freshman Sophie Ewald (Berlin, Germany/Droste-Huelshoff Oberschule/Barron (Wis.)), who placed eighth with a time of 18:17. Northwestern scored 76 points to win its first meet since the five-team Forester Invitational in 2006.
