EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern looks to replicate its success at last week's season-opening meet when it lines up for the Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State Friday afternoon in East Lansing. The event represents NU's first 6K challenge of the season as well as a chance to gain familiarity with the course that will serve as host of the 2012 Big Ten Championships later this year.
Northwestern is one of four Big Ten programs scheduled to compete in the Spartan Invite, joining Michigan, Ohio State and host Michigan State. The women's 6K meet will begin at 11 a.m. CT and feature nearly 350 runners in total.
Complete results from Friday's meet will be available on NUsports.com and MSUSpartans.com upon the race's conclusion.
With classes at Northwestern still nearly two weeks away from getting underway, NU head coach April Likhite and the Wildcats took advantage of the free time to shift their training for the week to Holland, Mich. Northwestern has another extended training stretch ahead of it, with two weeks to prepare for the Notre Dame Invitatonal on Friday, Sept. 28.
