2013 Cross Country Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. -- A Northwestern squad hungry for its first competitive run of the 2013 season will have that opportunity Saturday (Aug. 31) in Chicago's southwest suburbs, competing at the UIC Home Opener. The meet is being hosted in Palos Heights and brings together entrants from Northwestern, UIC, DePaul, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Green Bay, Chicago State and St. Xavier's.
The teams will compete on an abbreviated two-mile course at the Horsetail Lake area of the Palos Forest Preserve, with the women's meet at 10 a.m. followed by a men's 4.1-mile competition.
Northwestern heads into this season with a quartet of seniors who have contributed to the program's recent ascent under April Likhite, led by returning All-Midwest Region performer Michelle Moriset. Her classmates -- Julia Buford, Libby Kocha and Ann Powers -- also have championship meet experience and are striving to lead a strong group of underclassmen.
The Wildcats gained experience in mid-distance events like that they will see on Saturday during their spring track season, when Libby Kocha
clocked a 9:56, Jessie Baloga
posted a 10:00.8 and Camille Blackman
ran a 10:13 in 3K events over the course of the spring.
After arriving on campus for training camp just seven days ago, a freshman class of six Wildcats also will be looking forward for their first opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
