    Complete 2010 Cross Country Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- With the start of the 2010 cross country season drawing near, seventh-year head coach April Likhite announced on Friday her team's race schedule for the fall. NU is slated to compete within the state of Illinois on six occasions, including the Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Beach in Chicago on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Northwestern's season officially gets underway on Friday, Sept. 3, at the Badger Cross Country Classic in Madison, Wis.

"We firmly believe our 2010 schedule provides the perfect balance for our young yet talented squad," Likhite said. "Opening at Wisconsin not only gives us a chance to compete against another Big Ten team but also to preview the Big Ten Championships course."

The Wildcats will make a return appearance at Northern Illinois' Huskie Open the following week before heading south to the Illinois Intercollegiates in Normal on Sept. 17.

On Oct. 2, NU will be aiming to continue recent success at the Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola, where the 'Cats won the team title in 2008 and posted a number of personal season-bests at the 2009 event.

"As was the case last year, we're looking forward to welcoming a large group of the Northwestern Cross Country family to the Lakefront Invitational where we host our Parent and Alumni Weekend event," Likhite said.

Likhite will then bring her group to two final regular-season meets - the Bradley Classic and Illini Open.

"Similar to our early-season Wisconsin meet, the Bradley Classic is a chance for us to preview the site of NCAA Regional meet," Likhite said. "Bradley's course has become one of the team's favorites to run on over the last few years."

Championship season begins in earnest on Halloween at the Big Ten Championships hosted by Wisconsin, followed two weeks later on Nov. 13 by a return trip to Peoria for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Bradley.

Likhite is returning a wealth of young talent with prior scoring experience for the Wildcats, including rising juniors Hallie Busta and Rachel Kaminski as well as sophomores Audrey Huth and Allegra Mayer. Joining them will be Sophie Ewald and Molly Waterhouse, who each redshirted the 2009 campaign but enjoyed strong spring track seasons.
