EVANSTON, Ill. -- A Northwestern team excited to capitalize on its success of the 2012 campaign announced its 2013 fall schedule on Thursday, a slate that begins Saturday, Aug. 31, at nearby Illinois-Chicago.

April Likhite has guided the Wildcats to new heights since returning as head coach in 2007 and this fall welcomes back seven seniors who will look to close their NU careers by continuing the momentum that helped the 'Cats post a fourth-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Regional Championships.

"The conclusion of the 2012 season left us more determined than ever to make yet another jump at the conference and regional levels," Likhite said. "I'm confident that our new additions, along with returnees like All-Region performer Michelle Moriset and other members of our senior class, have the potential to accomplish great things for our program this fall."

After opening the season locally at the UIC Home Opener, Northwestern will head to the northeast to run with a nationally competitive field at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 14, a 6K event that last season included BIG EAST representatives Syracuse and Georgetown.

One week later, the team will get its first look at the site of the 2013 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships when it competes at the Iowa State Invite in Ames on Sept. 21. The Cyclones are the defending champions of the NCAA Regional meet and last year produced the NCAA individual national champion in then-senior Betsy Saina.

The month of October will give Northwestern the opportunity to return to two of the Midwest's most competitive meets, beginning with the Notre Dame Adidas Invite Oct. 4 in South Bend. Two weeks later, Northwestern heads to the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, where a year ago NU's Audrey Huth ran to a 6K Northwestern school record performance.

The trip to Madison also represents the Wildcats' final tune-up for the Big Ten Championships, which this year are slated for Sunday, Nov. 3, on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette.

Championship season continues for the Wildcats on Nov. 15 when they return to Ames, Iowa, for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Moriset, who is coming off a strong spring track season in which she recorded a season-best 5K time of 17:04, will be looking to replicate her All-Region performance of a year ago.
