EVANSTON, Ill. – Members of the Northwestern wrestling and cross country teams volunteered their time at the 2013 Dewey Fun Run at Dewey Elementary on Friday, May 17. The Wildcats spent the evening assisting at various activity stations and also provided support for students that ran or walked the track to raise money.
This annual event is a fundraiser for the school where students collect pledges for the number of laps they run or walk during a two-hour span at Dewey. Students from all grades raised money in support of PTA programs, which includes everything from field trips to scholarships.
There were a number of other stations available for those who did not want to run or walk as the NU wrestling and cross country teams kept the students active at the football toss, knockout basketball tournament, inflatable jumping castle and much more.
The NU cross country team volunteers weekly at Dewey, along with a number of other area elementary schools, serving as coaches for Girls on the Run, a program that introduces young girls to running while also learning life lessons each week. Senior Allegra Mayer spent Friday evening at Dewey helping coach her Girls on the Run running buddies. Click here for more information on Girls on the Run.
