    2011 Drake Relays Results

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A group of seven Northwestern runners competed in the 102nd running of the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines on Thursday, with sophomore Audrey Huth leading the way with a sixth-place finish in the 5K. Huth crossed in 16:50.63, cutting nearly 40 seconds off her time at the Drake Relays a year ago.

Northwestern entered a pair of underclassmen in the field for the 10K, where freshman Nicole Oliver significantly lowered her previous-best time from 37:58 -- set two weeks ago -- to 37:16.02 on Thursday. Oliver placed 16th while sophomore Moira Ryan was 22nd in 37:37.04.

Finally, NU's 4x1600-meter team of Rachel Kaminski, Allegra Mayer, Lauren Neuschel and Libby Kocha ran to a 13th-place showing. The group totaled a time of 20:52.54.

"We had a great opportunity to compete against outstanding competition and many of our girls rose to the occasion," said head coach April Likhite. "Our exceptional performances and the overall experience of competing at the Drake Relays made it a success. We are walking away inspired to take on even bigger goals for the remainder of the spring and into the fall."

With Thursday's Distance Carnival complete, the Drake Relays continue the remainder of the weekend in Des Moines.

Northwestern's spring season will culminate next week at the Wisconsin Twilight Invitational in Madison on May 7.
