CHICAGO -- Following a respite in its offseason track schedule for final exams and spring break, Northwestern competed at the University of Chicago's Ted Haydon Invitational Saturday, posting low times in a number of events.

Rising senior Audrey Huth led the way for Northwestern in the 3K race, with her winning time of 9:40.95 representing an improvement of six seconds over her top time during the spring season a year ago. Lexie Goldsmith also cracked the 10-minute mark with her time of 9:58.95, while Sophie Ewald claimed third in 10:08.63.

Eight of the top 10 finishers in the 3K were Wildcats, as junior Janelle Li-A-Ping and sophomore Libby Kocha rounded out the top 5 while Ashley Greenwell took eighth and Lauren Neuschel and Moira Ryan crossed in a tie for ninth at 10:27.14.

In the 5K, sophomore Nicole Oliver led the field with her time of 17:51.23 while classmate Ann Powers finished shortly thereafter in 17:55.93. Michelle Moriset was fifth with her time of 18:15.29.

The Northwestern tandem of juniors Neuschel and Li-A-Ping nabbed second and third, respectively, in the 1,500-meter race, with Neuschel crossing less than a second ahead of Li-A-Ping in 4:47.9.

Freshman Kayleen McMonigal placed 14th in the event with her time of 5:12.2.

For the first time this spring the Wildcats entered competitors in the 3K steeplechase, where junior Allegra Mayer was the top finisher with a time of 11:27.4 and Julia Buford and Elizabeth Fierro followed in second and third.

Northwestern is scheduled to return to the Maroons' home track this weekend for the Chicagoland Championships April 6-7.

Note: All Northwestern runners except Huth, Ewald, Moriset and Powers competed unattached in the meet.
