EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern hit the ground running in its spring track season over the weekend, competing at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational while also sending three runners to the 2013 USA Cross Country Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
Rising sophomores Jessie Baloga, Camille Blackman and Megan O'Brien competed for NU in the Junior Women's 6K event at the national cross country championships on Saturday. In South Bend, Northwestern set a slew of personal bests in their first competitions since the conclusion of the 2012 cross country season. Rising senior Michelle Moriset set a lifetime PR in the 5K race with a time of 17:16, placing 18th out of nearly 60 entrants. First-year Elena Barham also performed well with a time of 17:45, good for 39th.
Northwestern also was represented in the 3,000-meter event, where both Audrey Huth
(9:34) and Libby Kocha
(9:56) set career bests in the distance. Huth's effort was good for fifth in a field that featured top runners from the Big Ten, BIG EAST, SEC and other nationally competitive programs.
