EVANSTON, Ill. -- Frigid temperatures in the month of January have not kept Northwestern Cross Country from preparing for its 2013 spring competition schedule, which kicks off this weekend on two fronts. The Wildcats are set to send a trio of rising sophomores to the USA Cross Country Championships in St. Louis while also entering a strong contingent in the competitive Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame Saturday in South Bend.

Head coach April Likhite will watch as three of her first-year runners join their peers in the Junior Women's 6K race at the USA Cross Country Championships in St. Louis. Jessie Baloga, Camille Blackman and Megan O'Brien are set for an 11:30 a.m. CT start to their race on Saturday in historic Forest Park, which likely will offer race-time temperatures in the mid-40's.

Things will be heating up at Notre Dame's Loftus Sports Center beginning Friday with the start of the Meyo Invitational, which will host nearly 50 teams at the annual event. Northwestern's first appearance on the track comes at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday evening when rising seniors Michelle Moriset, Ann Powers and Nicole Oliver are joined by first-year Elena Barham in the 5K race.

The following morning (9 a.m. CT), Northwestern's Libby Kocha will run in the 3K alongside NU senior Allegra Mayer.

Like Mayer, outgoing senior and NU 6K school-record holder Audrey Huth will run in South Bend this weekend, entering in the 3K Invitational that is slated for 3:10 p.m. CT Saturday.

Race information and links to results, live video and interviews are available on UND.com.

This weekend's action marks the beginning of a 2013 track schedule that includes 12 meets from February to May, providing NU runners the chance to test themselves against the top competition in the Midwest and across the NCAA track scene.
