2013 Northwestern Spring Track Schedule (PDF)
EVANSTON, Ill. -- With the start of the academic winter quarter at Northwestern, head coach April Likhite and the Wildcats have turned their attention to preparing for a challenging slate of spring track competitions. Likhite announced Wednesday NU's 2013 track schedule that will once again see the Wildcats in competitions throughout the Midwest against some of the nation's top runners between February and May.
"Our entire team returned to practice this month extremely motivated by what they achieved during the cross country season and by how close they came to reaching even higher goals," Likhite said. "Our spring track season is a critical chance for us to continuously improve and position ourselves to take the next step as a program in 2013."
Northwestern will ring in the month of February by sending representatives to both the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame as well as the 2013 U.S. Cross Country Championships in St. Louis (Feb. 2).
After another split-squad weekend on Sat., Feb. 16 -- when 'Cats will enter in both Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational and the University of Chicago's Margaret Bradley Invite -- the team will return to South Bend to run in the competitive Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame.
Following a break from competition in the month of March, NU hits the track once more for the Chicagoland Championships on April 6. The ensuing two Saturdays will see NU entered in the Benedictine Invite (April 13) and both the Huskie Open (Northern Illinois) and Polytan Invite (Indiana) on April 20.
For the fourth straight year, the Wildcats will be represented at the prestigious Drake relays in Des Moines, which are once again scheduled for the final weekend in April. Additional Wildcats will compete that weekend at the Marquette Invitational in Milwaukee.
The spring season will then come to a close at the Dr. Keeler Invitation at North Central College on May 10.
Northwestern is coming off a successful 2012 fall campaign in which it finished the season by earning a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.
