DeKALB, Ill. -- Northwestern took advantage of its opportunity to compete at the NIU Open hosted by Northern Illinois Friday afternoon, putting the cap on a successful season for many of the Wildcats' younger competitors. Freshman Jessie Baloga was the top overall finisher at the open meet, wrapping up the 5K course in a time of 18:04.8.

The event featured runners from Northwestern, Northern Illinois and Bradley University.

Senior Ashley Greenwell and junior Julia Buford were close behind Baloga, taking second and third in 18:07 and 18:08, respectively. Buford's time was a season-best while Greenwell dropped 10 seconds off the time she posted on the same course back in September.

The freshman tandem of Allison Jacobson and Camille Blackman finished sixth and seventh with season-best times and were followed by junior Nicole Oliver (18:13) and seniors Janelle Li-A-Ping (18:16) and Allegra Mayer (18:18).

Fifteen total Wildcats represented NU at the meet. Complete results of the event are posted in PDF format at the top of the page.

Next week, Northwestern returns to championship season when the Wildcats travel to Springfield, Mo., for the 2012 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Start time for the women's 6K race is set for 11 a.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 9.
