MADISON, Wis. -- Getting its first race experience of the 2013 season, Northwestern finished first in the team standings at the Badger Season-Opener meet hosted by the University of Wisconsin Friday in Madison. The Wildcats beat out the host Badgers by 12 points to finish atop the standings, while senior Michelle Moriset and freshman Andrea Ostenso claimed the top two spots individually to pace the 'Cats.

Moriset wrapped up the 4K course in 14:14 to start off her senior campaign on a winning note, while Ostenso -- running in her home state where she was the Wisconsin Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year last fall -- crossed five seconds later for a successful collegiate debut.

Sophmore Megan O'Brien was the next Wildcat to place, taking 11th with her time of 14:30, while senior Ann Powers was 13th in 14:33. Sophomore Elena Barham was Northwestern's fifth and final scorer on the day, posting a 4K time of 14:40.

In addition to Wisconsin, the only other Big Ten team in the field Friday afternoon, Northwestern clipped regional rivals Loyola (Chicago), Marquette and DePaul in the team standings.

Next week, Northwestern is slated to split its squad with representatives at both the Dartmouth Invitational in New Hampshire and the UW-Parkside Midwest Opener.
