DeKALB, Ill. -- Northwestern made the most of its first taste of competition this fall, placing four runners in the top five and seven in the top 10 to claim first place in the team standings at NIU's Huskie Open Friday evening in DeKalb. Audrey Huth got her senior season off on the right foot by taking home the individual title by crossing in 17:42, 10 seconds faster than her second-place time at the Huskie Open a year ago.
The Wildcats, ranked No. 4 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Region to open the year, finished 41 points clear in the team standings of second-place Marquette, also topping Northern Illinois, UIC, DePaul and Chicago State at the event.
Junior Michelle Moriset recorded a strong 5K performance to open the season, crossing in 18:04 to take second place. Her classmate, Lexie Goldsmith, placed fourth in 18:08 -- less than one second shy of her 5K personal best from a year ago -- while fifth-year senior Sophie Ewald posted a time of 18:11 to take fifth.

Ashley Greenwell (18:19), junior
Libby Kocha (18:22) and senior
Moira Ryan (18:26) -- finished seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively, all surpassing their season-best 5K times from 2011. Freshmen
Jessie Baloga (18:26) and
Megan O'Brien (18:28) made strong debuts to round out Northwestern's lead pack.
