DePaul Opener Results
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's opening event of the 2008 season provided glimpses of the program's present as well as its future on the way to a second-place finish in the 4K DePaul Opener in Lincolnwood, Ill. Senior Carly Brown (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead) nabbed third place and freshmen Rachel Kaminski (Green Bay Wis./Bay Port) and Rachel Edwards (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) placed seventh and 10th, respectively, in their first races as Wildcats.
Brown crossed the finish in 15:02.94 and was followed by Kaminski at 15:08.97 and Edwards 15:24.67. Colleen Donovan of Loyola bested the 68 other runners that participated, finishing the course in 14:43.90.
Northwestern's second-place finish came thanks to six Wildcat runners who finished in the top-25 overall. In a scoring system in which the lowest team point total wins, NU placed 12 points behind Loyola while coming in ahead of DePaul, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Illinois-Chicago, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Chicago State University.
Seniors Allison King (15:29.18) and Marcellee Fullwood (15:40.02) and junior Paulina Garcia 15:53.64) rounded out the top-25 finishers for NU.
The Wildcats will hit the ground running as a team again next Friday in the Great American Legends meet hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. at 5 p.m.
