On July 26, 2010, Northwestern head coach April Likhite announced the addition of Patricia Loughlin, a 2009 graduate of Duke, to the Wildcat Cross Country family as an assistant coach. Loughlin, a two-year team captain for the Blue Devils, earned All-American honors in the steeplechase as a senior and was a member of the nation's No. 1-ranked track and field program.

"I am very excited to have Trish Loughlin join our staff," Likhite said. "She brings a wealth of experience with her after a very successful running career at Duke. She understands what it takes to thrive as a student-athlete at a prestigious academic and athletic institution. The leadership she displayed within her Duke running family, particularly as a team captain, will be extremely beneficial to our team."

Loughlin arrived at Duke as a non-scholarship student-athlete but quickly proved herself to be a key contributor and team leader. In addition to her All-American honors and second-place showing at the NCAA East Regionals in steeplechase, Loughlin also was among Duke's scoring runners at the 2009 ACC Cross Country Championships and was named the team's most improved senior.

Loughlin also received All-East recognition for her one-mile performance as a member of the indoor track team.

"I could not be more thrilled to join the Northwestern Cross Country family and to work with April and the young women on this team," Loughlin said. "I hope to bring my experiences as a student-athlete from Duke to help continue to build a program that will be a top contender in the Big Ten and the NCAA. Northwestern is a renowned academic and athletic school and I'm proud to become a member of its cross country team and athletic department."

A native of Portland, Ore., Loughlin gained previous experience as a marketing intern with Affinity Circles in California and as an intern in the Duke University Athletic Department. She has also spent three summers as a track and field camp instructor at her alma mater Jesuit High School in Portland.

Loughlin graduated from Duke with a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in political science.
