    Cross Country Signs Three to Letters of Intent

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern cross country coach April Ecke announced today the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent. Clarissa Hitchon (Washington Court House, Ohio/Miami Trace), Cherisse Lancaster (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Jennifer Anderson (Rockford, Ill./Auburn Academy) will compete at NU beginning in the 1998-99 school year.

    An accomplished two-sport athlete, Hitchon ran a school and personal record 18:29 in the 5,000 meters last year and owns school records in the 3,200 meters (11:29) and the 1,600 meters (5:24). Hitchon finished sixth in the state cross country meet, 14th in the 3,200 at the state track meet and earned Academic All-Ohio honors. She also earned MVP honors from her high school track team the past two seasons. Lancaster, a three-sport athlete in track, cross-country and gymnastics, helped Palatine win the state track meet meet in 1995 and 1996. Her relay team finished first in the 3,200 meter relay in 1995 and fourth in 1996. Anderson also competed in both cross country and track during her high school career. In 1997, Anderson was all-state, conference champion and conference MVP in cross country. Anderson's personal best in the 5,000 meters is 19:30 and she earned first-team all-conference in cross country the past three seasons. She was all-conference and a section champ in track in 1996.
