SEATTLE, Wash. - Northwestern could not come up with an answer for Washington's strong play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling in three games by the scores of 20-30, 21-30, 26-30. The Wildcats end their season 18-15 overall after the program's second consecutive bid to the Division I tourney.

The match marked the last time four Wildcats will wear the NU uniform, including Jill Buschur (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen), Erica Knavel (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East), Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland/Tarnobrzeg).

"I am proud of my kids, they came in and even though it has been a long year, they gave us everything they had," said head coach Keylor Chan. "Even tonight, we didn't play our best, but the effort was there. It just wasn't our night. Washington played real well."

Washington held an advantage in virtually every aspect of the game, with three players hitting over .300 and the team hitting .302 overall. Northwestern junior Leah Delcourt (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) was the only Wildcat to hit over .100, with a .333 (3-of-6). Delcourt also added three block assists in the match.

The Huskies made things difficult for the 'Cats by stringing together six runs of more than four points, including a 10-2 run in game two.

"Washington is a very good team and they are going to do real well in the tournament," said head coach Keylor Chan. "I think that since they are playing at home, that definitely gives them an opportunity to probably advance to the sweet sixteen. Its looks like they are on the right path."
