EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior Stephanie Holthus was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Mideast Region team, the organization announced today (Dec. 4). It is the second postseason honor in as many weeks for the outside hitter; Holthus was named to the All-Big Ten team on Nov. 27.

Holthus led the Wildcats with 18 double-double performances in 2012. The Burlington, Ill., native recorded 10 performances of at least 20 kills during the regular season and added 20 matches in which she amassed at least 10 digs. Her team-high 487 kills rank as the fifth-best single-season output in program history and her average of 4.27 kills per set is third all-time at NU.

The junior finished the regular season ranked third in the Big Ten in kills per set (4.27) and fourth in points per set (4.72).

The All-Big Ten performer achieved a pair of significant milestones during the 2012 campaign. Holthus collected the 1,000th kill of her career during the opening weekend of Big Ten play against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, becoming the 20th player in Northwestern history to accomplish the feat. Through the course of the season Holthus rose steadily on NU's all-time list and concluded the season in 10th place with 1,294 kills.

Holthus also made her presence felt in the back row for the Wildcats this season. She ranked second on the team with 347 digs this year and during the season finale against Nebraska, Holthus notched the 1,000th dig of her career, becoming the 15th player in Northwestern annals to do so. She finished the season with 1,003 career digs.

The third-year standout turned in several memorable performances this season, but few as unforgettable as her effort on Nov. 16 against Michigan. Holthus had a career-high 28 kills that evening, which tied her for the seventh-best single-match total in program history and gave her the third-most kills in a four-set match. She hit .404 against the Wolverines and chipped in 19 digs, four blocks, a pair of assists and a service ace. Holthus was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week following her tremendous performance against Michigan.

Other notable performances for Holthus include Sept. 29 at Indiana when she hit a career-high .514 with 21 kills and on Sept. 21 against Wisconsin when she tallied a career-high 22 digs.

The outside hitter was tabbed as the MVP in all four of Northwestern's nonconference tournaments as she helped the squad to the best start in program history at 11-0.

Holthus becomes the fifth player in Northwestern history to be chosen for the AVCA All-Mideast Region team, joining Sabel Moffett ('09, '10), Naomi Johnson ('10), Kate Nobilio ('09) and Erika Lange ('02). Holthus garnered Honorable Mention status in 2011, as did Chelsy Hyser in 2007.
