EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern libero Julie Chin has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District volleyball team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Chin is the fifth student-athlete in program history to collect the prestigious honor.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, where she majors in Economics and minors in Business Institutions, Chin has been the backbone of Northwestern's defensive effort on the court this season. The senior leads the Wildcats with 3.26 digs per set and ranks second on the squad with 49 assists in 2012.

Chin, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, has accumulated 1,355 digs during her career in Evanston, the fifth-best output in program annals. She needs only 54 digs with five regular season matches remaining to pass Jennifer Jostes and assume sole possession of fourth place on the all-time list.

Over the weekend, Chin turned another outstanding performance as she collected seven digs per set against No. 22 Purdue for a total of 21, matching her season high. She has recorded double-digit totals 17 times this season, including in six of the last seven contests.

Chin, named to the Second Team Thursday, is the fifth Wildcat to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades and the third under current head coach Keylor Chan. Sabel Moffett (second team in 2010), Stephanie Jurivich (first team in 2006 and third team in 2005), Melissa Doan (second team in 1998) and Alison Krumbien (first team in 1994) have also received All-District honors.

Northwestern returns to action Saturday night with a trip to University Park, Pa. to take on the second-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at 6 p.m. CT. Following that match, the Wildcats return to Welsh-Ryan Arena for three straight to host Michigan (Nov. 16), Michigan State (Nov. 17) and Illinois (Nov. 21).
