EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern middle blocker Sabel Moffett (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District V second team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Moffett becomes the fourth Wildcat to earn Academic All-District honors and the first since 2006.

Moffett, a 2009 All-Big Ten selection and AVCA honorable mention All-American, ranks among the Big Ten's leaders in a number of statistical categories, including leading the conference in solo blocks (21), total blocks (124) and blocks per set (1.44). She also ranks sixth in hitting percentage (.343) while sitting atop the Wildcat record books with a career .309 hitting percentage.

Against Minnesota Friday evening, Moffett recorded her 1,000th career kill, becoming the 19th player in Northwestern history to accomplish the feat. She has also established herself as one of the top blockers in program history, ranking fourth in block assists (382), sixth in total blocks (463) and eighth in solo blocks (81). Moffett, who completed her bachelor's degree in psychology in June, is currently pursuing her master's degree in sports administration.

Moffett becomes the fourth Wildcat to earn Academic All-District honors, joining Alison Krumbien (first team in 1994), Melissa Doan (second team in 1998) and Stephanie Jurivich (third team in 2005 and first team in 2006). She is also one of five Big Ten players selected to the District V team.

Moffett and the Wildcats have a big weekend ahead of them, hosting a pair of rivals at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Up first is in-state rival Illinois Friday night, with the opening serve against the sixth-ranked Illini set for 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Wisconsin then makes its yearly trip to Evanston for a 7 p.m. match on Saturday.
