EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern is looking to match its best start since 1997 when it travels east to New Haven, Conn. this weekend to take on Brown, Villanova and the host Yale Bulldogs at the 2012 Yale Invitational.

The Wildcats have come on strong out of the gate and posted a spotless 5-0 record in two tournaments thus far, matching the start of the 2011 squad. The last time that NU opened a campaign with six straight wins was in 1997 when the team went on to claim victory in 10 of its first 12 contests. Northwestern's best start in program history came ten years prior in 1987 when head coach Jerry Angle guided his group to a 9-0 record and wins in 14 of their first 15 matches.

    Where We Rank
Though the national statistical rankings will not be released until Sept. 10, several Wildcats find themselves ranked amongst the Big Ten's best this season. Four different NU student-athletes are scattered across six categories this week. Madalyn Shalter is second in assists per set with 11.79, while Stephanie Holthus ranks third with 4.42 kills and fourth with 4.89 points per set. Katie Dutchman is tied for sixth with 0.42 aces per set and ranks seventh with a hitting percentage of .440. The redshirt sophomore is 10th in the Big Ten with 1.11 blocks per set. Freshman Abbie Kraus is 10th in the conference with 0.37 aces per set.

    1K Club
Junior outside hitter Stephanie Holthus is inching closer toward becoming only the 20th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark. Entering play this weekend, the Burlington, Ill., native owns 891 terminations as a Wildcat including 84 through five matches this year. Janine Makar ('85-'88) is Northwestern's all-time leader with 1,666 kills.

[Catching Up with NU Head Coach Keylor Chan]

Chan Closing In On 200 Wins
Northwestern's Keylor Chan is closing in on 200 career wins as a collegiate head coach. Chan owns 197 victories in his 14th season including 179 as the bench boss for the Wildcats. He is the second all-time winningest coach in NU history. Chan spent one season (1999) as the head coach at Furman before taking over in Evanston.
