EUROPEAN TOUR CENTRAL
MARIBOR, Slovenia -- Northwestern experienced perhaps its busiest day in Europe to date on Monday, with action and adventure both on and off the court. The Wildcats attacked a high-ropes course on top of a mountain in Maribor, Slovenia in the morning, took on the Slovenian National Team in the afternoon and experienced dinner in the beautiful city center in the evening.

Today's player blog entry comes from junior Yewande Akanbi:
Hi Everyone! Today was so exciting!
We woke up and had a quick breakfast before heading up the mountain by ski lift for a ropes course. To get to the course, we had to ride a ski lift to the top of a mountain. I sat with Haley, our marvelous athletic trainer, and we made great conversation. When we got to the top, the people working the course immediately put us into harnesses to start the obstacles. I was in a group with Keylor, Yopchick, Monica, Savannah, KJ, Abbie, and Steph, where we had to climb a daunting wooden pole, and stand at the top before stepping off. It was super intense, and I was really nervous getting up, but with my teammates and coaches cheering me on I gained confidence and was able to complete the challenge.
It wasn't over yet! We then had to go on a giant rope swing that overlooks the mountain and the city below. Everyone else in your group had to pull you up, and then you let yourself go. It was so thrilling I screamed my head off! After the course, we sat down and had a wonderful lunch overlooking the city, which was breathtaking.
After getting back to the hotel, we had a couple hours of rest, and then we played a tough match against the Slovenian National Team. We lost 3-1 and even though we put in great effort, I think that we still need to be able to execute better from start to finish.
After the match, we went to dinner in downtown Maribor. The town was so cute, with its authentic buildings and cobblestone streets. The restaurant was super classy, and I really enjoyed their apple strudel (probably because I have a sweet tooth!). We were able to sit with the Croatian National Team and they were so fun! I ended up learning some new sayings!
All in all, it was a really exciting day, and I can't wait for tomorrow! We have our last match in Slovenia in the morning against the Youth National Team and then we're off to Venice, Italy.
p.s. Hi Mom and Dad!! I miss you both so much!! Volim te! ("I love you!" One of the new sayings I learned at dinner!!)
