EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head volleyball coach Keylor Chan has announced the addition of transfer Candice Yager to the Wildcats volleyball family. Yager will be a sophomore and available for the 2014 season, which begins on August 29.

Yager matriculated the University of North Dakota in 2013 from her hometown of St. Michael, Minn. The defensive specialist appeared in 95 sets over 31 matches as a freshman for UND and averaged 1.6 digs per set. Yager posted double-digit digs three times, including on Oct. 12 when she netted a career-best 13 against Portland State. The team went 22-11 in 2013 and claimed a share of the Big Sky championship.

In the classroom, Yager was an Academic All-Big Sky honoree and a member of the UND AD Honor Roll. She also received the D.J. Robertson Award for receiving a "straight A" average during her first semester on campus.

"We're thrilled to welcome Candice into the mix at Northwestern," said Wildcats head coach Keylor Chan. "She was a key component to North Dakota's conference championship team in 2013 and I know that she'll continue to compete at the highest level on the court and in the classroom in her new home."

Yager will join four other newcomers at Northwestern in 2014. Symone Abbott, Gabrielle Hazen and Taylor Tashima signed National Letters of Intent in November, while Katie Kniep joined the class in April.
