EVANSTON -- Northwestern volleyball standouts Julie Chin and Katie Dutchman will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. this weekend for the U.S. Women's National Team tryout at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.

Chin (Naperville, Ill./North) and Dutchman (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) will be trying out for both the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Women's National A2 program. The three-day evaluation, which runs from Friday, Feb. 10-Sunday, Feb. 12, will feature over 200 of the top players from more than 70 colleges around the country.

"The USA tryouts are a wonderful opportunity for Julie and Katie," said Northwestern head coach Keylor Chan. "It will provide them both an opportunity to compete with some of the nation's top volleyball players. We believe this experience will help them become better volleyball players."

U.S. Women's National Team will consider athletes who have remaining eligibility; however, their participation will begin in mid-May or when their scholastic calendar ends for 2012. Participants in college and with eligibility remaining for the 2012 collegiate season not selected to join the U.S. Women's National Team may be invited to participate with the U.S. Women's Senior A2 program. This program is scheduled to take place in Columbus, Ohio, from June 26-July 5. A projected 48 athletes will be invited to participate in the program, which will include training and competing at the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships (GJNC) from July 1-4.

Chin will be a senior in the fall for the 'Cats. The libero currently ranks 11th in program annals with 1,075 digs. In 2011, Chin dug 505 attacks, the sixth-best single-season output in Northwestern history. The economics major was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Dutchman competed for the Wildcats for the first time in 2011 after taking a redshirt in her first year on campus. Last season Dutchman ranked second in the Big Ten in blocks with 1.29 per set and fourth with 0.33 aces per frame. The Californian was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week three straight times during the month of October. Like Chin, Dutchman was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2011.
