    Northwestern Improves to 4-0 with Victory Over Western Michigan

    KALAMAZOO, Mich.--The Northwestern women's volleyball team ran its record to 4-0 for the first time since 1987 with a four-game victory over host Western Michigan. Game scores were 15-10, 15-12, 5-15 and 15-12.

    Freshman outside hitter Carmen Burbach spearheaded the Northwestern attack, posting a game-high 23 kills while adding 10 digs. Junior Jessica Holloway contributed 15 kills and led the Wildcats' defensive effort with 12 digs. Setter Liz Renius collected 59 assists and notched three service aces.

    Western Michigan controlled play at the net, with 12 blocks as opposed to just six for Northwestern. Mandy Whitfield sparked the Broncos offensively with 19 kills.

    Northwestern will make its first home appearance on Friday as the annual Wildcat Classic gets underway, with the Wildcats taking on Kansas at 7:30 p.m. Tournament play continues on Saturday as Northwestern battles Virginia Tech at noon and Florida at 7:30 p.m.
