    Fifth-Ranked Wisconsin Defeats Northwestern, 3-0

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Wisconsin middle blocker Kelly Kennedy had 16 kills and five blocks while teammate Amy Lee collected 12 kills and three blocks as the fifth-ranked Badgers defeated Northwestern tonight in Welsh-Ryan Arena, 15-9, 15-6, 15-7. UW improves to 21-2 overall, 12-1 Big Ten. The Wildcats fall to 11-13 overall, 2-11 Big Ten.

    Game one was close throughout, tied at 8-8 at the midway point. Wisconsin rattled off seven of the last eight points for the 15-9 victory. Kennedy collected six of her kills during that run. UW owned game two, hitting .500 while holding NU to just a .139 hitting percentage. Game three saw Wisconsin jump out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Wildcats battled back to tie it at 4-4. A 6-0 Wisconsin run put the game out of reach, as the Badgers won the third game, 15-7.

    Jessica Holloway led the Wildcats with 14 kills and six digs. Setter Liz Renius tallied 40 assists, two blocks and tied Holloway for the team-high in digs with six. Melissa Doan had 10 kills while Leah Ackerman hit .462, on the strength of eight kills, in the loss.

    Northwestern hosts intrastate-rival Illinois on Saturday night in Welsh-Ryan Arena while UW travels to Michigan.
