    Women's Volleyball Falls to Illinois and Wisconsin

    EVANSTON, Ill.-The Northwestern volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions this weekend on the road, losing 15-3, 15-6, 15-10 at #25 Illinois on Friday night and 15-8, 15-5, 15-7 at #10 Wisconsin on Saturday night. NU is now 10-7 overall, 1-5 Big Ten.

    Against the Fighting Illini, NU struggled early, but improved throughout the match. The 'Cats hit -.133 in game one, but recovered to hit .178 in game two and .214 in game three. Freshman Carmen Burbach led the Wildcats with nine kills, eight digs and three aces on the night. Jessica Holloway added nine kills and two blocks in the loss.

    On Saturday at Wisconsin, the NU offense never got on track. The Wildcats played much better defense against the Badgers, holding UW to a .193 hitting percentage for the match -- well below their season average. The Badgers came into Saturday's match hitting .270 on the season. Sharon Fisk led both teams in kills with seven while setter Liz Renius led both teams in digs with 10. Holloway added two aces for the match.

    The Wildcats return home this weekend to face Indiana on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. NU then hosts top-ranked Penn State at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The PSU contest will be televised live by SportsChannel Chicago.
