    MIAMI, Fla. - Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg), Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week last week, led the Northwestern volleyball team, as they defeated George Mason at the Orange and Green Challenge at the University of Miami. The Wildcats earned their fifth consecutive sweep of the season, defeating the Patriots by a score of 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-24). With the win, the 'Cats improve to 5-2 on the season, while George Mason falls to 3-6.

    "I thought we played well and were very focused today," said head coach Keylor Chan. "We will have to be much sharper tonight when we play Miami, but I am very proud of our players and pleased with this victory."

    All-America candidate Lange recorded 15 kills, three solo blocks, three digs and a hitting percentage of .481 to lead Northwestern. Senior outside hitter Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland/Tarnobrzeg) had an exceptional performance for the 'Cats as well, notching 17 kills, 16 digs and a .414 hitting percentage. Junior setter Drew Robertson (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) led the team in assists with 42, while also recording seven digs, one block assist and a .333 hitting percentage for the Purple and White.

    Northwestern and George Mason swapped points early in the first game, but the Wildcats began to pull away as the teams approached the midpoint of the match, scoring four unanswered points. Halfway into the game, NU led 15-13. The Patriots cut the lead to one, but the 'Cats pulled away and defeated George Mason, 30-24.

    The Patriots tied the score at two early in game two, but it would be as close as they would come to defeating the Wildcats. Northwestern exploded onto the court and, at the midway point of the game, led 15-10. George Mason rallied late and cut the 'Cats' lead to five, but NU prevailed and won by a score of 30-23.



    In the third game of the match, George Mason jumped out to an early 4-3 lead. The Wildcats went on a 9-2 run to take a 12-6 lead, before the midpoint of the game, when the Purple and White led 15-9. The 'Cats went on another run late in the game and earned a 30-24 victory.

    The Patriots were led by senior outside hitter Aline Pereira, as she tallied 21 kills, 11 digs and a .294 hitting percentage.

    Northwestern will return to action tonight at 6 p.m., when the Wildcats take on the Miami Hurricanes at the Knight Sports Complex.
