ITA Midwest Regional Championship Tournament Central
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Head coach Claire Pollard and the Northwestern women's tennis team will be in Columbus, Ohio this weekend for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by the Ohio State University. The tournament begins Thursday, Oct. 20 and runs through Monday, Oct. 24.
Natalie Edell (Westlake Village, Calif./Westlake) was the first Wildcat to compete in the event on Thursday. The sophomore is competing in the qualifying draw with the hope of winning spot in the main draw, which begins Saturday at approximately 10 a.m. CT. Edell got off to a good start, winning her opening match in straight sets against Alex Power from Cleveland State, 6-1, 6-2 on Thursday afternoon. This morning Edell faced Illinois' Julia Jamieson with a berth in the main draw at stake. The Wildcat won the three-set thriller, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, to advance.
Linda Abu Mushrefova (Bradenton, Fla./Pendleton), Nida Hamilton (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Stacey Lee (Old Westbury, N.Y./Wheatley) and Anna Livadaru (Berlin, Germany/Boca Prep) will all compete in the opening round of the main singles draw at the Varsity Tennis Center. Mushrefova, Hamilton and Lee will begin play at 10 a.m., while Livadru will play on the fourth available open court of the day as soon as it becomes available.

(Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) and Belinda Niu
, who enters the field as the fourth seed, have byes in the opening round and will play at 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Wowchuk and Turvy are also grouped in seeds five through eight.
In the doubles draw, Mushrefova and Hamilton begin play as the tournament's No. 1 seed, while Livadaru and teammate Elena Chernyakova (Moscow, Russia/No. 150) are the fourth seed. Wowchuk and Niu are in the grouping of five through eight, while Turvy and Edell will also pair up in the draw. The first three pairings all have first-round byes.
Turvy and Edell play Friday at 1 p.m. and later at 5 p.m. should they advance. Musrefova and Hamilton will begin at 4 p.m., while Chernyakova and Livadaru are slated to get underway at 5:00 p.m. Wowchuk and Niu are in the last group of matches to go off Friday at 5:30 p.m.
