    Sixty-Five Wildcats Earn Academic All-Big Ten Honors in Spring Announcement

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern student-athletes earned 65 Academic All-Big Ten honors in six spring sports and two at-large sports, the Big Ten Conference office announced today (June 2). Coupled with 83 accolades won in the fall and 37 more in the winter, a school-record 185 Wildcats were named Academic All-Big Ten during the 2009-10 academic year, topping the mark of 184 set in 2008-09.

    Northwestern-sponsored sports honored by the Big Ten and recognized during the spring season are: baseball, men's golf, women's golf, softball, men's tennis and women's tennis. In addition, the Wildcats' women's fencing (which competes in the Midwest Conference) and women's lacrosse (which competes in the American Lacrosse Conference) squads also were honored.

    To earn Academic All-Big Ten recognition, an athlete must be in his/her second year at the institution, letter in his/her sport and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
