    EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern student-athletes earned 65 Academic All-Big Ten honors in six spring sports and two at-large sports, the Big Ten Conference office announced today (May 31). Coupled with 97 accolades won in the fall and 44 more in the winter, a school-record 206 Wildcats were named Academic All-Big Ten during the 2011-12 academic year, topping the mark of 201 set in 2010-11.

    Northwestern-sponsored sports honored by the Big Ten and recognized during the spring season are: baseball, men's golf, women's golf, softball, men's tennis and women's tennis. In addition, the Wildcats' women's fencing (which competes in the Midwest Conference) and women's lacrosse (which competes in the American Lacrosse Conference) squads also were honored.

    To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
