Complete List of ITA Regional Award Winners

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern women's tennis head coach, Claire Pollard, was among those recently honored with year-end awards by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced late last week. Pollard was recognized as the 2012 ITA Midwest Region's Head Coach of the Year, marking the fifth time in her illustrious 14-year career she has taken home the honor.

Pollard led the 'Cats to their 12th Big Ten Championship with a stellar 10-1 regular-season conference record. Under Pollard's tutelage, Northwestern completed the dual season with an impressive 17-7 record, including wins over No. 8 North Carolina and No. 9 Virginia. All but two of NU's opponents were ranked in the ITA/Campbell national polls at the time of the respective matches, with nine teams hailing from the top-15.

Junior Kate Turvy also gained recognition from the ITA this year, as she was named the Midwest Region's Player to Watch this season leading into next year. Turvy spent much of 2012 ranked in the top-25 in the singles rankings and reached as high as No. 13 in early April.

Northwestern's season continues to roll on with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in Athens, Ga., on tap. The 13th-seeded Wildcats are one of only 16 remaining teams in the country and will square off with the 4th-seeded Stanford Cardinal in the third round for the second time in as many years. Northwestern and Stanford met in Palo Alto, Calif., last year in an instant-classic duel which lasted until 1:30 a.m. local time. Stanford took the match, which was much closer than it appeared, 4-2.

The two clubs square off on the campus of the University of Georgia with the first serve scheduled for noon ET, 11 a.m. CT. Fans can follow the action on Twitter (@NU_SportsLIVE) and right here at NUsports.com.
