    Three Wildcats to Compete at NCAA Singles and Doubles Tourneys

    EVANSTON, Ill. - Kate Turvy will represent Northwestern in singles competition, while Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton will compete in doubles play at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill.

    The singles and doubles tournaments will be held following the team competition from May 17-21. Both Turvy and the doubles team earned at-large bids.

    Turvy has split time between the top two spots in the Northwestern singles lineup this season. Despite battling injury, she compiled a 20-13 overall record thus far, including a 12-9 in dual meet play. Nine of her dual meet victories are over ranked opponents. A first-team All-Big Ten selection for the third straight season, Turvy won the ITA Midwest Regional singles title in October and has won nine of her last 10 matches that have completed. She is currently No. 51 in the ITA singles rankings.

    Mushrefova and Hamilton have spent the entire season at the top spot in the Wildcats' doubles lineup. Ranked as high as No. 8 in the nation, the duo is currently No. 14 in the ITA doubles rankings. They have seven wins over other ranked teams, including wins the third-ranked team from Nebraska as well as the fifth-ranked duo from Virginia. Mushrefova and Hamilton are 22-13 overall this season, including 12-11 in dual meet competition.

    All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.

    Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.

     

     

    Automatic qualification into the Division I doubles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible doubles teams ranked in the ITA Top 60 for eligible/entered doubles teams. For conferences with more than one doubles team within the ITA Top 60 eligible/entered doubles teams, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which doubles team is the automatic qualifier from those conferences.

    Northwestern will host the opening two rounds of the NCAA team tournament May 10-11 at Combe Tennis Center in Evanston. Baylor and San Diego State play the opening match at 11 a.m. May 10, while NU takes on UIC at 2 p.m. The winners of Friday's match square off at noon the following day with the victor advancing to Urbana.
