EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 16 Northwestern ventures out on the road for the penultimate weekend of the Big Ten season as it heads to No. 38 Penn State on Saturday and No. 62 Ohio State on Sunday.
Saturday's matchup is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. Central time, while first serve is set for 11 a.m. Central on Sunday.
The Wildcats are looking to bounce back from a tough 4-3 home loss to eighth-ranked Michigan on Sunday. The match was tied 3-3 when the Wolverines pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 singles in the decisive match. Kate Turvy, Linda Abu Mushrefova and Brittany Wowchuk were victorious in singles for NU. One day earlier, Northwestern rolled to a 6-1 victory over Michigan State as it won five of six singles matches as well as the doubles point.
Turvy paces the 'Cats with a No. 55 national ranking this week, while Veronica Corning is No. 106. In doubles, the team of Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton is ranked No. 9. Mushrefova is a perfect 7-0 in Big Ten singles matches, while Hamilton is undefeated in four conference matches. Alicia Barnett and Veronica Corning have teamed up to win their last five doubles matches.
Penn State split its two road matches last weekend, falling 4-3 at Minnesota before responding with a 7-0 win at Wisconsin. Petra Januskova is ranked No. 67 in this week's ITA singles ranking while teaming with Chelsea Utting for a No. 49 doubles ranking. Both Januskova and Utting are a team-best 13-4 in singles dual action at the top two spots in the lineup. Northwestern has won all 24 all-time meetings with the Nittany Lions.
Ohio State plays host to Illinois before taking on the Wildcats. The Buckeyes fell 5-2 to Wisconsin last Friday before bouncing back to defeat Minnesota by the same score two days later. Kelsey Dieters is the Buckeyes lone ranked individual at No. 45. Gabby Steele paces the team with a 13-3 record in dual meet action while playing at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions. Northwestern leads the all-time series between the teams 34-5.
