    Northwestern Draws California in First Round of National Indoors
    Tournament shifts from Wisconsin to Virginia for first time in history

    2011 ITA National Indoor Team Championship Bracket Get Acrobat Reader

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 20 Northwestern, winners of the last two ITA National Indoor Team Championships, has learned that the road to winning three in a row will begin against fifth-seeded California at 3 p.m. CT Friday in Charlottesville, Va.

    A first-round victory over the Golden Bears would set the Wildcats up with a match in round two against either Washington or fourth-ranked North Carolina.

    Northwestern and California last squared off during NU's run to the 2010 title, with the Wildcats ousting Cal in a tight 4-3 outcome in the semifinal round.

    Top-ranked Stanford drew the No. 1 seed in the tournament bracket and will face Arkansas in the opening round. Only six programs have won the Indoor Team Championship since its inception in 1988 and five of those teams are in the 2011 draw -- Northwestern, Stanford, Florida, Duke and Georgia Tech, with three-time champion Georgia failing to reach the round of 16 this season.
