EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team makes its return to the ITA Team Indoor Championship this weekend as it participates in the 26th-annual event hosted by the University of Virginia at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

The Wildcats open up play at 8 a.m. Central time when they take on seventh-seeded Alabama. The winner faces the victor of the match between second-seeded Duke and Baylor at 11 a.m. Saturday in the quarterfinal round.

NU advanced to the main draw by posting victories over No. 38 Arkansas and No. 26 Purdue on Jan. 25 and 26. The Wildcats are represented in the national rankings by senior Kate Turvy, who is No. 67 in singles, while the doubles team of senior Linda Abu Mushrefova and junior Nida Hamilton is No. 42.

Alabama is making its first appearance in the event and is No. 9 in this week's ITA team rankings. The Crimson Tide is 4-0 so far this season, including victories over No. 19 Clemson, No. 38 TCU and No. 50 Memphis. Alabama has four players with a national singles ranking, led by 12th-ranked Mary Anne Macfarlane and 13th-ranked Alexa Guarachi. Freshmen Maya Jansen (59th) and Natalia Maynetto (105th) have also earned an ITA National Women's Singles rankings. The duo of Macfarlane and Guarachi is also ranked second nationally in doubles.

Northwestern encountered the Crimson Tide back in the fall when the Wildcats traveled to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.

If the Wildcats are able to get by the Crimson Tide, it could set up a rematch against Duke. The Blue Devils made the trek to Evanston last Sunday and came away with a 4-0 win.

The trip marks Northwestern's second visit to Charlottesville in the last four weeks. NU participated in the UVa Winter Invitational Jan. 19-21.
