EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern demolished a top-15 opponent in its first match of the 2008 dual season last weekend and now takes its show on the road for a match against New Mexico on Saturday, then to No. 1 Georgia Tech on Feb. 2.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 7 in the ITA rankings, have three singles ranked in the top 20 and three doubles pairs in the top 50. Overall, every 'Cat is ranked in the polls in singles, doubles or both.

NU freshman Maria Mosolova (Moscow, Russia) leads the Wildcats at No. 2 in the country and was named the Big Ten's Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. Mosolova is 16-2 this season and is the second Wildcat to win the award in as many weeks.

Sophomore Samantha Murray (Altrincham, England/Altrincham Grammar) won the award last week and is dually ranked in the top 20 in singles and doubles. Last year's Big Ten Player of the Year Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) also returns to the dual as one of two NU singles to take a point in last year's match against Tech.

This season, New Mexico is 1-1 with wins over Monterrey Tech (Mexico) and Colorado, while dropping a 5-2 decision to Vanderbilt. The defending national champion Yellow Jackets opened their season 1-0 with a 7-0 sweep against Auburn. They take on USF on Saturday at home before hosting the Wildcats.

Tech has three ranked singles, including the third-ranked player in the nation in Amanda McDowell. The doubles pair of Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray is Tech's only ranked duo at No. 10 in the country.

All-time against New Mexico, NU is 2-0, while holding a 3-1 edge over Georgia Tech. The Wildcats only loss to the Yellow Jackets came last season in a 4-3 match.
