EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team is set to host the Wildcat Invitational beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 at the Combe Tennis Center. The Wildcats welcome Florida State, Iowa, New Mexico and Penn State to Evanston for the four-day tournament.

The Wildcats enter the tournament ranked sixth in the country by the ITA. The No. 6 ranking is the second-highest in program history.

Junior Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) received the nod as the 12th-ranked singles player in the nation, while senior Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) ranks 23rd.

The Wildcats' doubles team of Grier and Prousis is ranked eighth in the country and is coming off a second-place finish at the 2006 National Collegiate Tennis Championships last weekend.

The doubles team of Alexis Conill (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) advanced to the semifinals at the N.C.T.C., but fell to Grier and Prousis.

Following the Wildcat Invitational, the Wildcats open their dual-meet season at No. 3 Texas at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28.
