    Women's Tennis Defeats Marquette

    No. 53 Wildcats sweep all six singles matches.

    The Wildcat women's tennis team, ranked No. 53 nationally, swept all six singles matches to beat Marquette 7-0. The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 45, won just one doubles match before falling to NU Saturday at the Johnson Tennis Center.

    Sophomores Katherine Nasser, Leigh Weinraub and Jennifer Lutgert, freshmen Shannon Duffy and Colleen Cheng and junior Laura Guignon stole the singles matches. Nasser, playing at the No. 1 spot, defeated Elisa Penalvo 1-6, 7-6(8-6), 7-6(7-1). At No. 2, Duffy took a 7-6(7-4), 6-7(8-6), 6-3 decision from Ana Fernandez, while Cheng defeated Ester Ruiz de Ona, 7-6(7-4), 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Nasser and Cheng suffered the only loss to Penalvo and Fernandez, 8-5. Weinraub and Duffy, who played at No. 2, pulled out a victory over Ruiz de Ona and Sara Fernandez, 9-8, 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
