EAST LANSING, Mich. -- After a first-round bye and four-straight victories, the doubles team of Cristelle Grier (Epsom, England/Putney) and Alexis Prousis (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has advanced to the finals round at the 2005 ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
In the quarterfinals, Grier and Prousis topped DePaul's team of Csordas and Ganeva, 8-4. The duo then topped Notre Dame's fourth-seeded doubles team of Buck/Tefft, 8-4. Grier and Prousis face Wisconsin's team of Burke and Beck in Monday's final round.
On the other side of the bracket, Nazlie Ghazal (Temecula, Calif./Chaparrel) and Georgia Rose (Mettawa, Ill./North Shore Country Day) advanced to the quarterfinals round. There, Ghazal and Rose fell to Burke and Beck, 8-4.
There are three 'Cats still going strong in singles action as well. Grier, Prousis and Rose have all advanced to the quarterfinals round.
Sunday, Grier topped Purdue's Randi Schuler, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-5.
Rose advanced by beating Notre Dame's sixth-seeded Christian Thompson, 6-3, 6-2.
Prousis finished strong for the Wildcats, blowing by Notre Dame's Lauren Connelly, 6-0, 6-2.
Play resumes Monday with two rounds of singles action, as well as the doubles final.
